a Release Engineer is a support engineer. I build software. Basically I support Software Engineers. They do all the software development and Release Engineers (or as some company's call them Configuration Managers) make sure the software compiles into a deliverable product. We also version control it, and provide the support for the version control software (which in my case is Clearcase).
I used to be a hairdresser! I had to give it up due to allergies. The only thing I knew how to do was type so I started out after I quit hairdressing doing data entry in a bank. I decided to go to school nights and got an associate's degree in Marketing/Business Management. Yep, no engineering degree. I had a few administrative positions thru the years and one of them ended me up at a Defense Contractor who let me learn a few things more. I ended up supporting a bunch of engineers on a deadline and learning a few extra things. ;) I fell into a position because I had a clearance (thats how political it was) and learned a few more things (gotta love on the job training)! I basically just worked my way up by learning what I could. And that's how I got where I am today. Aren't you glad you asked?
Thanks for giving me something to blog about Curtis! ;) Hope I haven't bored you to tears!
Happy Monday!

I was always curious about your work stuff! Thanks for sharing! :)
Am I stupid if I am still a little puzzled? Basically you are really smart and do software stuff. I will go back and read it again. :)
Sounds like you know your crap.
Do you ever hack into the CIA or anything for fun?
No McCookie! I don't hack into anything, I am not anywhere near that smart! I hope I didn't talk myself up too much! LOL!
I don't get it. I am dumb!=)
Wow Pam. Yet another 'life link.' I used to work for a company that did product data management software, which is basically version control, etc. I moved from being a tech writer to being software quality manager (nope, no engineering degree!). Now in my new job, I'm submission specialist, submitting reports to FCC, IC, etc. Nope, no engineering degree. LOL!!! We be smart girls, yes? :-D
I'm still alive and I updated my blog, but my header seems to have gone sideways this morning after i got to work and I have no software to fix it until I get home. grrrrrr
