I got a JOB!!!

So while I was in NY I had to log in to submit my unemployment claim so as not to miss my payday. I decided to quickly check my email and there was an inquiry from a company named Oberon about a Configuration Management position at Hanscom AFB, MA. I emailed them and told them I would be out of town but would call them on Wednesday when I got back.

Monday morning the boys were very cranky and overtired and I was coming down with a cold and I decided it was time to head out a day early. I was upset that my visit with Cindy was going to be cut short but I didn't want her and her family to have to deal with my cranky kids.

Tuesday am I emailed the Oberon contact and told them I was home a day early and available to talk to them. They called me and said it was a good thing I got home early as they were about to make someone an offer, asked me if I could come in the next day. Wednesday morning I showed up at 10am to talk to them and by 11:30 I had an offer. It was contingent on me getting a security clearance so they posted my start date for August 11th. Well when the security people ran my social my old clearance from 2005 was still active so they didn't have to do all the background investigations and just picked up that clearance and called me back and said I could start Monday!

What a whirlwind! I can't wait to get back to work!

Today's Thoughts

I got this via email and thought I'd share it's very sound advice:

Jim is the kind of guy you love to hate. He is always in a good mood
> and always has something positive to say. When someone would ask him
> how he was doing, he would reply, 'If I were any better, I would be twins!'
>
> He was a natural motivator.
>
> If an employee was having a bad day, Jim was there telling the
> employee how to look on the positive side of the situation.
>
> Seeing this style really made me curious, so one day I went up and
> asked him, 'I don't get it!
>
> You can't be a positive person all of the time. How do you do it?'
>
> He replied, 'Each morning I wake up and say to myself, you have two
> choices today. You can choose to be in a good mood or ... you can
> choose to be in a bad mood
>
> I choose to be in a good mood.'
>
> Each time something bad happens, I can choose to be a victim or...I
> can choose to learn from it. I choose to learn from it.
>
> Every time someone comes to me complaining, I can choose to accept
> their complaining or... I can point out the positive side of life. I
> choose the positive side of life.
>
> 'Yeah, right, it's not that easy,' I protested.
>
> 'Yes, it is,' he said. 'Life is all about choices. When you cut away
> all the junk, every situation is a choice. You choose how you react to situations.
> You choose how people affect your mood.
>
> You choose to be in a good mood or bad mood. The bottom line: It's
> your choice how you live your life.'
>
> I reflected on what he said. Soon hereafter, I left the Tower Industry
> to start my own business. We lost touch, but I often thought about him
> when I made a choice about life instead of reacting to it.
>
> Several years later, I heard that he was involved in a serious
> accident, falling some 60 feet from a communications tower.
>
> After 18 hours of surgery and weeks of intensive care, he was released
> from the hospital with rods placed in his back.
>
> I saw him about six months after the accident.
>
> When I asked him how he was, he replied, 'If I were any better, I'd be
> twins...Wanna see my scars?'
>
> I declined to see his wounds, but I did ask him what had gone through
> his mind as the accident took place.
>
> 'The first thing that went through my mind was the well-being of my
> soon-to-be born daughter,' he replied. 'Then, as I lay on the ground,
> I remembered that I had two choices: I could choose to live or...I
> could choose to die. I chose to live.'
>
> 'Weren't you scared? Did you lose consciousness?' I asked
>
> He continued, '..the paramedics were great.
>
> They kept telling me I was going to be fine. But when they wheeled me
> into the ER and I saw the expressions on the faces of the doctors and
> nurses, I got really scared. In their eyes, I read 'he's a dead man'.
> I knew I needed to take action.'
>
> 'What did you do?' I asked.
>
> 'Well, there was a big burly nurse shouting questions at me,' said
> Jim. 'She asked if I was allergic to anything 'Yes, I replied.! ' The
> doctors and nurses stopped working as they waited for my reply. I took
> a deep breath and yelled, 'Gravity'.'
>
> Over their laughter, I told them, 'I am choosing to live. Operate on
> me as if I am alive, not dead.'
>
> He lived, thanks to the skill of his doctors, but also because of his
> amazing attitude... I learned from him that every day we have the
> choice to live fully.
>
> Attitude, after all, is everything .
>
> Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.
> Each day has enough trouble of its own.' Matthew 6:34.
>
> After all today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday.
>
> You have two choices now:
> 1. Delete this
> 2. Forward it to the people you care about.

Going on a Road Trip

The boys and I are headed down to NY to visit with my good bud Cindy and her family. We are staying the weekend and maybe more if we all get along! ;) Cindy thinks she is going to teach me how to knit and while I laugh at this I shouldn't laugh too hard as she is the ONE that got me into Digi Scrapping! ;)

I had an interview that went pretty well on Wednesday. They did have more candidates to interview this week and next but I am hoping I'll come back to good news. If y'all could send me some hiring vibes I'd appreciate it!

When I get back the boys are headed to Maine for a week with my Inlaws and I have no idea what I am going to do with myself being all alone for a week. It's been 4 months since I got laid off and they have been home with me every day since the end of June! I am gonna miss them! At least I'll have Michael when he gets home from work!

I hope everyone has some fun plans for the weekend and I'll see you sometime next week!

Fireworks

What Your These Fireworks Say About You

You are focused, single minded, and intense.

You don't let others see your intensity often, and when they do, they are quite surprised.

You burn brightly, but you also burn steadily.

You have the endurance to get the one thing you desire most.

Happy 4th Everyone!

Birthday Memories

The Sweet Shoppe Blog is asking us to post about our very favorite birthday memory this week. Mine came to me without hesitation and will always be my very favorite Bday memory as I don't think anything can ever top this one!

It was my 40th Birthday. I wasn't too happy about turning 40 but I was going to be going to Cape Cod for a scrapbooking weekend so it was looking up. Well when all of very favorite scrapping buds and some of my best friends in the world decided they were going to join me that just took the cake! Chris was flying in from California, Andrea was coming up from Florida, Carol from Texas, and Cindy from New York. I couldn't have had a better birthday weekend than that weekend. We had so much fun, scrapping, eating, laughing and talking into the wee hours of the night! It was a blast.

Here is one of my very favorite photos from that fantastic weekend:

So that's my favorite memory and it's gonna be so hard to every have another birthday as fun. So lets keep the fun going, tell me about your favorite birthday memory!
